Record sale of the Breguet Type XX Only Watch 2021

On Saturday November 6, Breguet participated in the new edition of Only Watch, the major charity event organized by the Monegasque Association against Myopathies. During this long-awaited auction, opened to the public for the first time and held at the Palexpo Geneva international Exhibition and Congress Center, Breguet unveiled the Type XX Only Watch 2021 chronograph. The timepiece, a reissue of its famous pilot's watch made as a unique piece for the event, was a resounding success, sold for CHF 250,000, exceeding the initial estimate placed between CHF CHF 35,000 and CHF 50,000.

With the donation of this exceptional timepiece and its record-breaking sale, Breguet is proud to contribute to scientific research projects aimed at finding a cure for patients suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

A timepiece with historical references

Equipped with a straight crown, a bidirectional steel bezel, a "12-hour" scale and a luminous triangular marker, this exclusive interpretation of the Type XX chronograph pays tribute to the civilian versions of this watch launched in the 1950s and 1960s. Various distinctive features make this piece unique, such as the bronze color of its dial, which is a nod to the very rare civilian models sold at the time with this same shade.

Its architecture features a small seconds at 9 o'clock as well as a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock whose increased diameter, luminous markers and drop-shaped hand are different from the first military versions. This watch offers optimal legibility in all conditions and features hands that are colloquially referred to as "syringes" because of their shape. The hands are treated with Super-Luminova®, as are the large Arabic numerals. The Breguet signature is visible at 12 o'clock, as it should be on a civilian version.

The historical coherence does not stop at the casing detail. Indeed, the Type XX Only Watch 2021 comes equipped with a Valjoux 235 13-line movement, directly inspired by the Valjoux 222 14 lines used by Breguet in the 1950s and early 1960s. This hand-wound column wheel chronograph movement has been restored and returned to service by the House of Breguet. In doing so, the Type XX Only Watch 2021 respects the historical functions and proportions of the pieces upon which it is based. Of course, this movement is fitted with the flyback function, without which it could never be a true Type XX pilot chronograph. Finally, the screw-down steel caseback displays the engraving "Only Watch 2021 Pièce Unique".
